Yamaha and Partners Bring Joy to Coweta County Children with Bike Donations
Hundreds of children in Coweta County are happier thanks to the efforts of Yamaha Motor Manufacturing Corporation of America (YMMC) and its strategic partners. On January 31, a donation to Glanton Elementary School in Grantville concluded a major project that saw Yamaha provide bicycles to 10 of the 13 Title I schools in Coweta County. The total contribution for this program amounted to $76,000 made possible through the Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative (OAI).
The initiative was supported by All Kids Bike, a national nonprofit that teaches kindergarten students how to ride bikes during physical education classes at school. Over the past few months, Yamaha employees assembled bikes at its Newnan facility in preparation for the donations to Glanton, Arnco-Sargent, and Northside elementary schools.
The most recent ceremony at Glanton revealed 24 balance-to-pedal conversion bikes, giving excited kindergartners the opportunity for their first rides.
“I am so excited that we have partnered with Yamaha and All Kids Bike to give this to our kids,” said Glanton principal Dr. Nina Wimbley. “Learning how to ride will help kids have lifelong experiences of being healthy, it’s a good way to get outdoors and out of the house, and they can spend time with friends.”
Nick Epstein, Principal at Arnco-Sargent Elementary, echoed this sentiment: “We are beyond grateful for the support that Yamaha and All Kids Bike have provided to our school with the bike program! Our students were so excited to receive the bikes, and we know that this program will have a positive impact on their development. The bike program is a fun way for students to learn how to ride a bike in a safe environment at school, and they will learn a valuable skill that they can use to maintain a healthy lifestyle into adulthood.”
“What they’re doing through this program is providing our kids with life skills that they may not otherwise get,” said Dr. Evan Horton, superintendent of the Coweta County School System, who attended the event at Glanton. “The ability to ride a bike, to experience the outdoors, it's just incredible. It's something that a lot of people take for granted, and the fact that we're able to, through this program, teach kids in our schools to do that is just an incredible opportunity for them and for us. I can't thank Yamaha and All Kids Bike enough for what they're doing for our students here in Coweta County.”

Yamaha made this event happen with a $9,000 gift to the All Kids Bike Kindergarten PE Learn-to-Ride Program, which involves teacher training and certification, a complete learn-to-ride curriculum, a fleet of two dozen bikes with pedal conversion kits and student helmets, as well as a teacher instruction bike and rolling storage racks. As one official noted, it gives the school everything needed to teach children the life-changing skill of how to ride in eight lessons.
“This is unlocking a whole series of new experiences for these kids in the future,” said Bob Brown, president of YMMC. “Yamaha sponsors the All Kids Bike Program because we think it's really important for kids to get off their screens, go outside, enjoy the outdoors, learn how to ride on two wheels, and hopefully become Yamaha owners. Most of the products we create at Yamaha are made for the outdoors. We want kids to experience the joy of being outside, the joy of being together with their friends and family, and having new experiences. We think this is a great introduction to that, and it provides us a way to encourage that across our school district.”
All Kids Bike launched in 2018 with the goal of giving every child in America the opportunity to learn how to ride a bike in school. Its Kindergarten Learn-to-Ride PE program is now active in more than 1,000 schools across all 50 states.
For more than a decade, the Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative has led the powersports industry in guaranteeing responsible access to our nation’s land for outdoor enthusiasts. Through this program, Yamaha has directly and indirectly supported thousands of miles of motorized recreation trails, maintained and rehabilitated riding and hunting areas, improved staging areas, supplied agricultural organizations with essential OHV safety education, built bridges over fish-bearing streams, and partnered with local outdoor enthusiast communities across the country to improve access to public lands.
